The Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu is one of the most exciting alternative routes to reach the legendary Inca citadel. This 4-day adventure combines mountain biking, trekking along ancient Inca trails, tropical landscapes, local culture and optional activities such as rafting and ziplining.

During the journey, you will travel from the high Andes at Abra Málaga into the warm cloud forest, passing through local communities and plantations of coffee, cacao, coca leaves, tropical fruits and other traditional crops.

The adventure also includes the opportunity to relax at the famous Cocalmayo Hot Springs before continuing toward Aguas Calientes and finally experiencing the unforgettable wonder of Machu Picchu.

Day 1: Cusco – Abra Málaga – Huamanmarka – Santa María

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 6:30 a.m. and begin our journey through the Sacred Valley, passing through Chinchero, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo.

We will continue toward Abra Málaga, located at 4,316 meters / 14,160 feet above sea level.

After receiving a safety briefing and mountain biking equipment, we will begin an exciting downhill bike ride of approximately 50 km, descending from the high Andes into the lush cloud forest.

Along the way, you will experience dramatic changes in landscapes, vegetation and climate.

After the bike ride, we will visit the archaeological site of Huamanmarka before continuing by vehicle to Santa María, located at approximately 1,200 meters above sea level.

Lunch, dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided in Santa María.

Optional activity: Rafting on the Urubamba River.

After breakfast, we will begin our trek through the tropical valley toward Santa Rosa and Pispitayuc.

During today’s hike, we will walk along a section of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan – Inca Trail system, surrounded by spectacular landscapes and plantations of coffee, coca leaves, cassava, cacao and tropical fruits.

We will also enjoy magnificent views of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.

After lunch and a short rest in Qellomayo, we will continue walking along the Urubamba River toward Santa Teresa.

Before reaching the town, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous Cocalmayo Hot Springs, where you can relax in naturally heated thermal pools surrounded by mountains and tropical vegetation.

Overnight accommodation in Santa Teresa.

Optional activity: Zipline adventure.

After breakfast, we will begin our journey toward the Hydroelectric Station, enjoying beautiful waterfalls, coffee plantations and tropical scenery along the way.

The first section takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

After lunch near the Hydroelectric Station, we will continue walking along the railway tracks toward Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Pueblo.

This scenic walk offers impressive views of the surrounding mountains, rivers and cloud forest.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will check into our accommodation.

In the evening, your guide will provide a briefing with all the necessary information for the following day’s visit to Machu Picchu.

Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

Early in the morning, at approximately 4:30 a.m., we will begin the hike from Aguas Calientes toward the entrance of Machu Picchu.

The ascent takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Once inside the archaeological site, your professional guide will lead you on an approximately 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, explaining the history, architecture, culture and mysteries of this extraordinary Inca sanctuary.

Depending on your entrance ticket and current regulations, you will have time to enjoy your designated Machu Picchu circuit.

Travelers who have booked an additional entrance may also visit Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, subject to availability and advance reservation.

After visiting Machu Picchu, we will return to Aguas Calientes and later take the train to Ollantaytambo.

Upon arrival, our private transportation will take you back to Cusco.

Can I book the Inca Jungle Trek without a passport or with an expired passport?

Yes. You can initially make your reservation using your current passport information. South American travelers may also be able to use their national identification document where permitted.

If you are renewing your passport, please send us a copy of the new document as soon as you receive it so we can update your reservation details.

Most participants are between 20 and 40 years old, although the tour can also be suitable for younger travelers and adults between 40 and 60 years old who are in good physical condition.

Families traveling with children should contact us before booking so we can evaluate whether the activities are appropriate for their age and experience.

You do not need to be an experienced trekker, but you should have a reasonable level of physical fitness.

Participants should be comfortable walking for several hours per day and have basic bicycle-handling skills.

The trek combines walking, downhill mountain biking and changing terrain, so some preparation before the trip is recommended.

Professional mountain biking experience is not required. However, you should know how to ride a bicycle confidently and be comfortable controlling the bike while descending.

No. Rafting is an optional activity available in Santa María for an additional cost of approximately USD $30.00 per person.

No. Ziplining in Santa Teresa is optional and costs approximately USD $30.00 per person.

The visit can be incorporated into the itinerary, but the entrance fee is not included in the standard tour price.

Yes. Tickets for Huayna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain have limited availability and should be reserved well in advance.

We recommend bringing comfortable trekking clothes, hiking shoes, a waterproof jacket or poncho, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, a hat, personal medication, a reusable water bottle, a small backpack and some cash in Peruvian soles.
